The team win was assured as Brady Loveless finished Layton's Crue Kopecky in his championship match with a "Tech" pin. The match was critical as Layton ran close behind, challenging the title all tournament through. There were several Layton wrestler's in the finals as well as Payson. the tournament was to be determined by simple math, most wins per team wins the tournament, and Payson did just that! Of the five wrestlers in the final's, Payson walked away with Four Champion's.
The first lion reigned king of the mat was 125lb. sophmore, Jed Mellen. Jed beat Mario Luna from Green river Wyoming 6-4.
Second lion crowned was 130lb. Junior, Cole Ford as he beat Brett Naylor of Davis 2-1.
Junior, Zac Loveless earned the third lion title and received the lower weights "outstanding wrestlers" award for the dominating Presley Paperchek of Roosevelt, Colorado 11-0.
The tournament appeared to be Payson's, but Senior Brady Loveless assured it when he dominated, then pinned Kopecky in 34 seconds into the second round.
The title could not have been earned except by the hard work of ALL team members participating throughout both Friday and Saturday of tournament action.
