2012 Tournament of Champions Results

Payson Wrestlers earn 2nd place as a team (192 points)and put 5 wrestlers in the championship finals at Uintah’s Tournament of Champions. Ten wrestlers became place winners with 4 of the 10 becoming 2012 TOC champions. Discovery Canyon (196.5 points) of Colorado were reigned Champions and Roosevelt Colorado (184 points) placed third behind the mighty Lions.
Mitch Brown 126 lbs was the first to earn his championship title by defeating Jaime Flores of Green River Wyoming in an outstanding 58 second pin! Other wins for Mitch include: a pin against Damond Fornengo of Rock Springs, pin against Senter Timmons of Green River, 15-5 Major decision against Cade Wilson of Layton and 4-2 Decision over Brady Dart of Mountain Crest.
Jed Mellen 132 lbs was awarded the lower weights Outstanding Wrestler and next to be crowned Champ after defeating Cary Adam of Roosevelt Colorado by pin. The match was at an impressive 12-1 for Jed before the pin! Other wins for Jed include: A pin against Colton Hopkins of Worland Wyoming, 16-1 tech fall on Dane Koepfer from Steamboat and a pin against Robert Martinez of Discovery Canyon.
Zac Loveless 138 lbs earned his championship by defeating Ryan Slaugh of RockSprings Wyoming with a decision victory of 4-1. Zac enjoyed other victories over opponents: Rich Clayton of Uintah by a pin, a 41 second pin against Tyler Paxton of Hayden, a Major decision over Kaden Lindley by 10-2 and a Major decision over Ken Astle of Layton 12-0.
Cole Ford became the Champion at 145 lbs with an 8-5 decision victory over Mason Marick of Roosevelt Colorado. Cole had 4 other victories against: Dakota Labrum of Uintah with a major decision 19-7, Bryson Peel of Kelly Walsh Wyoming by pin, a second pin against Brandon Sperle from Discovery Canyon Colorado and tech fall victory 21-6 against Kaden Campbell of Union.
Kaelen Loveless took home a 2nd placement at 152 lbs. Freshman Riley Loveless 113 and Dalton Judd 195 each placed 4th. Devan Judd placed 5th at 182 lbs. Will Ford placed 7th at 160 lbs and Freshman Brian Hoschoer placed 8th in the heavyweight division.
One of Utah’s toughest tournaments, placing 2nd is definitely a respectable accomplishment. Payson Wrestlers were reigned team champions last year and undoubtedly would have earned the title again, but were shy 120 lb Hagen Loveless who was out for medical reasons.
The tournament is one of the teams most exciting as it features 13 teams from out of state and 9 from within. It boasts some of the toughest teams from Colorado, Wyoming and Utah. Featuring many state champions and exceptionally tough matches, we will be looking forward to next year!
